Is EBAY just a digital pawn shop where stolen goods are easily available?

GRANOLA asked:

How is it possible for EBAY sellers to sell their items for so much lower than what they are worth on the retail market? Does EBAY simply provide a place for thieves to sell stolen merchandise freely ? Is EBAY helping to create a marketplace for stolen items?
