I have some various books and things I think people would be willing to buy. I’ve never sold anything. For eBay seller pros, what tips do you have for someone who’s just starting out?

I intend to only do a few items (maybe just one) at a time so I can keep track of everything. It’s also not going to be sketchy items (it’ll be like books, merchandise, unopened skin care, etc.)

Communication is probably the most important thing. If something goes bad in a transaction, let your buyers know right away.
Shipping is second in importance.. Ship within 1-3 days and make sure the stuff you pack is secure and won’t break during shipping. If it’s something valuable, get insurance on it.
I recommend USPS- never have had any problems with the shipper.

stay away from anyone who claims they are a “wholesaler” or a “dropshipper”. i fell into those scams a few years ago.. it wound up costing me a lot of money and time.

Always under-describe your product. That way when someone gets it they are pleasantly surprised.
Also make sure that if someone does a local pick up they pay you in person. If they pay through paypal, they can scam you and say they didn’t get it and you won’t have anyway to dispprove them.
Be quick to answer questions and be helpful.
Last, but not least use common sense.
Good Luck, and happy selling.

A friend of mine used to sell a lot on e-Bay and her one piece of advice to me was: Always make sure you ask enough to cover shipping. Make sure you get enough to cover your gas and to ship it properly.
